Finishing Grade 9, Buildspace S5, and saying Goodbye to TKS Innovate!
June Newsletter | Yakshith Kommineni
Hey everyone, I know it has been a while but for new readers, I’m Yakshith, a 15-year-old in the Greater Toronto Area. I’m really passionate about AI and Neurotech!
And for previous subscribers, welcome back! If you liked all the previous ones, you will for sure like this one too.
Presenting at TKShowcase + Last Day
As you probably, I’m an innovate student at TKS, a global, 10-month-long journey for ambitious teens. At the end of the 10 months, we have the opportunity to showcase our projects.
I presented my Schizophrenia detection project, in essence, it uses your brainwaves while you’re playing a game to predict if you have Schizophrenia or not. For more information, check out the previous edition of this newsletter!
I had a great time listening to all the presentations, panels, and showing my project to intrigued parents and kids. Can’t forgot the sick photobooth!
This was also my last innovate session which was kind of bittersweet because some people like me are moving on to the second-year program called Activate while others aren’t.
Anyhow, after the showcase was finished, my friends and I went out to the Eaton Center to get some food and hung out for a bit until we said our goodbyes and left
First Blender Project!
If you remember from my last newsletter, I started learning Blender. Blender is an open-source 3D software that you can do about pretty much anything.
Below is my Gameboy Console that I made in Blender. Even though I followed a course tutorial, I learned many new tools and shortcuts that made my life much easier
.+I really liked how it turned it, just really clean in general.
Last Few Weeks of School
The last few weeks or even the last day of Grade 9 didn’t hit like it did in elementary school. It just didn’t feel right. Probably because in high school, we tend to get more work during the last month of school compared to elementary where in June all you do is go outside or eat freezies.
For my final projects for my courses, I believe I did exceptionally well on them however, it’s my coursework that I need to improve on.
Math: Simplest Summative, literally 3 tests that were all out of 10. I got 28.8/30 altogether which brought my final mark to 93%
Gym: The summative was an evaluation of different categories of sports, I did well on all of them except Target which was Archery. I ended with an 81%
French: I got 27.8/30 on my summative which was a reflection, an oral interview, a listening activity, and a writing activity. I ended with an 88%
Tech: I got 96% on my summative which was a website portfolio and I ended off with a 93
Joining Buildspace S5
Buildspace is a global program where thousands of people from around the world come together to build something. This could be literally anything. From a music album to a cartoon show to even a web app that allows newly moved people to furnish their homes seamlessly and elegantly.
Wait a minute, that’s exactly my idea!
I actually just rolled out my toy, aka the first piece of the puzzle. I built a computer vision model to analyze different types of furniture and integrating it into a flask application where you upload an image, and it shows the different types!
